Please be careful when working with external storage. Any mishandling could corrupt the data or cause a malfunction on the external storage or display unit.
Removing External Storage Precautions
External storage you can use to save data in (or reference) differs depending on the model.
1.5 Supported Features
External storage you can use to save data in (or reference) differs depending on the function.
5.7 Usable External Storage
While data is written to external storage, changes in the display of parts and screens may slow down.
It may take several seconds to write data, depending on the amount.
After the Status data is read from the display unit, be sure to allow time equal to at least one communication cycle*1 or one Display Scan Time period*2, whichever is longer, before the next command can be written.
When external storage is not attached to the display unit, do not run screens that use external storage. It may not work properly.
If a write error occurs, any file that has not finished writing may remain on the external storage.
When overwriting, the required available space on the external storage is more than the size of the actual data. If the data is larger than the available space, a write error will occur.
The display unit cannot detect NTFS formatted external storage. Format the external storage using FAT or FAT32 on your computer.
When saving data to external storage, the folder (such as "\alarm") is automatically created if it does not already exist. However, if external storage is not formatted properly, a write error will occur as the folder cannot be created. The same applies when the SD card is write protected.
Please connect only one USB storage device to the display unit. Even if multiple USB storage devices are connected to the display unit, you can only use the USB storage that is first recognized.
The maximum capacity of the USB storage you can use on the display unit is as follows.
GP4000 series (excluding the GP-4100 series), LT4000 series, and IPC series: 32 GB
Other series than those above, GP-4100 series,: 2 GB
When using a SD card, please verify the SD card supports the following specifications.
SD (File format: FAT, Maximum capacity: 2 GB)
SDHC (File format: FAT32, Maximum capacity: 32 GB)
Use a CF Card manufactured by Digital Electronics Corporation (Pro-face). If a CF Card manufactured by another company is used, the contents of the CF Card may be damaged.
The number of times that data can be written on a CF Card is limited. (Approximately 100,000 times for rewriting 500 KB.)
*1 The Communication Cycle Time is the time it takes from the point the display unit requests data until the display unit receives data from the device. It is stored in internal device LS2037 in Bin format. The unit is 10 milliseconds.
When using multiple devices/PLCs, you can verify the communication cycle time of each device/PLC, with internal device addresses displayed in the [System Settings] - [Peripheral List] page's [List of Device/PLC Management Addresses].
5.4.13 System Settings [Peripheral List] Settings Guide
*2 Display Scan Time is the time required to process one screen. It is stored in internal device LS2036 in Bin format. The unit is in milliseconds.
External Storage Cautions for Use
When accessing external storage, do not power OFF or reset the display unit, or disconnect external storage. You may damage the external storage.
To ensure safe CF card usage, create special application screens that prevent access to the CF card. Use the screen when performing operations like turning the display unit OFF, resetting the display unit, opening or closing the CF card cover, or inserting and removing the CF card.
When ejecting a CF/SD card, make sure the CF card access lamp (LED)/SD card access lamp (LED) is OFF. Data on the CF/SD Card may be damaged.
When removing the SD card/USB storage, make sure you refer to the following. Forcible removal of the SD card/USB storage may corrupt your data.
5.3 Safely Detaching the SD Card or USB Storage Device
When installing external storage, please be careful on the front and back position of the external storage and its connectors. If the position is incorrect, you may lose your data or damage the external storage and display unit.
Do not transfer screen data (Send Project) to the display unit or enter OFFLINE mode while writing data to external storage. This may result in an incomplete file or damage to external storage.
Please back up the data on the external storage device.
Please refrain from doing the following, as it can result in damage to data and equipment:
Leaving it exposed to static electricity or electromagnetic waves
Leaving it exposed to high temperatures, such as those caused by direct sunlight or heaters
Bending the CF Card
Dropping the CF Card
Spilling water on the card
Touching the connections on a display unit
Disassembling or modifying the CF Card
