Rating Details |
The following tables explain the International Electronics Commision's (IEC) "IP" rating, and the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association (JEM1030) protection standard. |
IP - (a) (b) (c) |
IP---(Degree of) Ingress Protection |
(a) Degree of protection provided against solid objects
Codes |
Degree of protection |
0 |
No protection against solid objects (i.e. the human body, tools, etc.). |
1 |
There is no risk of solid objects accidentally coming into contact with either the recharging unit or internal moving parts.
There is no risk of any solid object with a diameter over 50 mm penetrating inside the unit (i.e. a human hand). |
2 |
There is no risk of small objects less than 80 mm in length accidentally coming into contact with either the charging unit or internal moving parts.
There is no risk of any solid object with a diameter over 12.5 mm penetrating inside the unit (i.e. a human finger). |
3 |
There is no risk of the tips of solid objects such as tools and wires with a diameter or thickness over 2.5 mm penetrating inside the unit. |
4 |
There is no risk of the tips of solid objects such as tools and small wires with a diameter or thickness over 1.0 mm penetrating inside the unit. |
5 |
Protected against dust-limited ingress (no harmful deposit). Even if a small quantity of fine particles does penetrate the unit, the amount is not sufficient to disrupt normal operation. |
6 |
Totally protected against dust. |
|
(b) Degree of protection provided against liquids
Codes |
Degrees of protection |
0 |
No protection. |
1 |
Protected against vertically falling drops of water, e.g. condensation. |
2 |
Protected against direct sprays of water up to 15 degrees from the vertical. |
3 |
Protected against sprays of water up to 60 degrees from the vertical. |
4 |
Protected against water from all directions - limited ingress. |
5 |
Protected against low pressure jets of water from all directions - limited ingress permitted. |
6 |
Protected against strong jets of water, i.e. for use on shipdecks. |
7 |
Protected against the effects of immersion between 15cm and 1.0m. |
8 |
Protected against long periods of immersion under pressure. |
|
(c) Degree of protection provided against oil ingress
Codes |
Degrees of protection |
f |
There is no risk of damage from exposure to oil drops or oil sprays in any direction. |
g |
No oil will penetrate after exposure to oil drops or oil sprays from any direction. |
h |
Devices can be operated even when kept submerged completely in oil. |
c |
There is no risk of damage even if the device is used in slightly corrosive environments. |
d |
Corrosive gases cannot penetrate into the device and the exterior surface of devices can endure extended exposure in a corrosive environment. |
e |
Based on the following standards; JIS C 0901, JIS C 0902, JIS C 0903, JIS C 0904 and JIS C 0905 |
w |
Unit can even be used outdoors. |

Cutting Oil |
Cutting oil is used in machining processes to improve cutting performance and extend tool life. These oils are designed to quickly penetrate between a fast moving cutting tool or blade and a stationary or moving workpiece. However, this penetration ability makes these oils potentially damaging to any equipment installed nearby, since this oil can also easily penetrate both connecting parts and the bond between an installation gasket and a Pro-face panel. A cutting oil or its chemical additives can even cause gaskets and bonding agents to deteriorate or swell.
The JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) K 2241 classifies cutting oils according to their composition and characteristics. In addition, there are many other non-rated types of cutting oil currently available for a wide range of applications. Therefore, before installing your operator interface, confirm that its protection level is sufficient for the intended environment. |
|
Installation Gasket Replacement |
Normally, the deterioration of bonding agents and gaskets accelerates at high temperatures or in environments where oil mist is present.
Please understand that Pro-face cannot guarantee our unit's protection rating will remain effective for a specific period. However, this is only because work environment conditions will vary widely from customer to customer and it is impossible to accurately estimate the degree of deterioration that will occur during the use of each possible type of substance.
