------------------------------------------------------------------ File: Readme.txt Version: 1.6.1 Date: 08-Nov-2012 Description: System Monitor (WinXP/Win7 32/64-bit) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Below you will find a short description and version information of the software. ------------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL INFORMATION ------------------------------------------------------------------ The System Monitor monitors temperature ranges, fan function, SMART status of defined hard disks, CompactFlash cards and SSDs, and battery status (of the built-in UPS) of specific PCs. This version supports following PC series: - Schneider and Pro-face Automation PC 810 (APC810) - Schneider and Pro-face Panel PC 800 (PPC800) - Schneider and Pro-face Power Panel 500 (PP500) Some System Monitor functions: - Notify alarms with buzzer and/or sound. - Show alarm message (popup) with configurable message text. - Shutdown of system at alarm. - Write event log entries for each alarm. - Show current alarm status in GUI and taskbar. You can change and view settings of the System Monitor with the System Monitor applet in the Control Panel. ------------------------------------------------------------------ REQUIREMENTS ------------------------------------------------------------------ The System Monitor requires the appropriate ADI driver to be installed on the system: - APC810 and PPC800: ADI driver 1.52 or higher. - PP500: ADI driver 1.3 or higher. ------------------------------------------------------------------ INSTALLATION ------------------------------------------------------------------ The software can be installed on Windows XP and later only. To install this software: 1. Close all applications. 2. Start the setup .exe (for example by double click in the Explorer). You must have administrator rights for installation! The installation uses the fixed installation folder \Utility\SysMon on the system drive. During installation the system is inspected to determine: a) If the ADI driver is ready and if not, the installation process waits max. 60 s for the ADI driver to be ready. b) The PC type and number of installed fans. This affects the fan speeds and temperatures that are monitored. c) If an UPS is installed and must be monitored. d) If an audio output device is available. When no audio output device was found, all sound settings are disabled and on Windows 7 also all buzzer settings. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.6.1 (08-Nov-2012) ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Support for Western Digital 500 GB HDD added (WD AV-25 series, model WD5000LUCT). This HDD is the successor of: 5AC801.HDDI-P00 PRF APC810 Slide-In-C HDD 250GB (M5400) 5AC801.HDDI-S00 SEI APC810 Slide-In-C HDD 250GB (M5400) - Threshold handling for negative temperatures fixed: temperature and fan alarms occured when the UPS battery temperature was below 0°C. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.6 (21-Jun-2012) ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Support for Intel SSD 520 series added: 5AC801.SSDI-P01 PRF APC810 Slide-In-C SSD MLC 60GB 5AC801.SSDI-S01 SEI APC810 Slide-In-C SSD MLC 60GB - Setup now supports the Windows 7 Restart Manager API to close and restart applications using files that need to be updated. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.4 (11-Jan-2012) ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Test timeout handling removed = version 1.5.4 from 07-Dec-2011. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.4 (09-Jan-2012) ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Test: Timeout for ADI increased from 60 to 600 sec (only at silent install). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.4 (14-Dec-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Test: Timeout for ADI increased from 60 to 300 sec. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.4 (07-Dec-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - Threshold for SSD SMART attribute E8 "Available Reserved Space" changed from 20h (= 32%) to 14h (= 20%). Changes - Support for "SSDSA2SH032G2 INTEL" added. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.3 (28-Oct-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - Checking the SMART status increased the "Load Cycle Count" SMART attribute (C1) of the hard disk excessive (up to five counts per minute) when the disk was not in use by any other application and therefore the hard disk head was parked. This lead to a SMART hard disk error after approx. 80 days of hard disk use when the threshold of the "Load Cycle Count" was reached (= 600000). The SMART status and attributes are checked now with a cycle time of 12 hours instead of 10 seconds. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.2 (06-Sep-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - The alarm dialog was not displayed as top-most window (since setup version 1.5). - The alarm dialog was not displayed centered at the first popup (since setup version 1.5). - The executable files contained wrong copyright character: ® instead of ©. Now (C) is used for all copyright strings. Changes - The alarm dialog is now "refreshed" as top-most window in the foreground every five seconds. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5.1 (27-May-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - Waiting for the required driver at setup did not work correctly. The System Monitor then used the information about installed fans, UPS etc. from a previous installation. This information could be wrong if this installation was performed on a different system. - The System Monitor applet is now displayed in the Control Panel category view of Windows Embedded Standard 7. Changes - Setup now waits maximum 60 seconds for the required driver to be active. - Setup now deletes the gathered information about the system in the registry at install and uninstall. - During setup a SysMonInfo.log file is created in the installation directory. This file contains information about the setup procedure useful for error analysis. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.5 (20-Apr-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - The list title columns on the GUI tabs could be clicked although list sorting is not supported. - Control Panel applet were shown with truncated texts and "ugly" font when display language "Chinese (simplified)" was used. See also: "PRB: Property Page Resized Under DBCS System" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306597/en-us The property sheet uses now always font "Tahoma(8)". Changes - Settings for PP500 and PPC800 added. - System Monitor service handles the power supply temperature on PPC800 as optional (only available with DC power supply). - Detection of drive SMART support improved. - CF cards settings are specified using disk names with wildcards. Thus new CF card revisions and sizes do not require new settings. - Each alarm must be reset (identical to System Monitor from Schneider and Pro-face). - The GUI is terminated at uninstall. - GUI starts without "flicker" of main dialog. Changes requested by Pro-face - Admin mode added: Fan speed, temperatures values and limits are displayed in the GUI when the GUI is started with command line parameter "admin". GUI can be closed with ALT + F4 (required for restart as "admin"). - Upper/lower case of message and event log texts unified. - Copyright string and company name of installer and installed files unified. - GUI improved: Tab order adjusted. Alert window does no longer "flicker" at ALT + F4. F1 has no effect. "Enter" does no longer trigger button actions (handled as "Tab" now). - "Show this message after an hour" is always disabled when the alert window is opened. - The Silent button is enabled only if buzzer or sound is active. - The Reset button is enabled only if an alarm was active. - When an alarm occurs again before reset, all alarm events (buzzer, sound, popup, event log) are triggered again. - The installer waits max. 10 seconds when the ADI driver is not already running. - The installer sets all "Buzzer" settings to disabled under Windows 7, when no audio output device is present. (therefore AdiRegInfo.exe was replaced by SysMonInfo.exe) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.4 (02-Feb-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - Taskbar icon was sometimes not refreshed at startup. - Tabs without values did not show the disabled icon. Changes - Service: Support for fan slow down monitoring added. - Service: Support for fan auto-detection added (eventlog entries only for detected fans). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.3.1 (20-Jan-2011) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Changes - Fans are detected automatically at installation - this requires APC810 ADI driver 1.52 or higher. If no fans are detected, the Fan tab is removed from the GUI and applet. If fans are detected, monitoring is enabled by default. If an older ADI driver version is installed on the system the possible(!) fan count is determined depending on the model number of the device. Because this does not mean that fans are really assembled monitoring is disabled and must be enabled by the user. - Temperatures: "Buzzer" and "Show popup..." are enabled by default. - Fans: "Buzzer" and "Show popup..." are enabled by default. - SMART: "Buzzer" and "Show popup..." are enabled by default. - Battery: "Buzzer" and "Show popup..." are enabled by default. - The battery tab is shown in the GUI and applet only if an UPS was already installed at setup of the system monitor. "Monitor" is then enabled by default. - Installation folder is {SystemDrive}\Utility\SysMon and can no longer by changed during installation. - The installer does no longer create a start menu entry for the GUI. - The GUI is always started at end of the installation (the "start" checkbox has been removed from setup). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.3 (22-Dec-2010) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - Buzzer and sound were not signaled, if "show popup message" was disabled. - Service was restarted only if Apply was clicked in applet. - Internal memory of service was overwritten when reading the drives from the registry. This resulted in wrong SMART handling of some drives. - Missing SMART attributes added for 5CFCRD.8192-05 "Compact Flash 8192MB SB". Life time check is now possible. - "On Battery" was not signaled with popup or sound. Error handling (event log, sound, popup) is done for following UPS errors: Error, Unknown Error, On Battery, Low Battery, No Battery, Low Battery Shutdown. Changes - Doku updated: "Unknown" status is never shown in GUI. - Server performs no error action at unknown status. - GUI "waits" 8 seconds at server errors before performing an error action to allow restart of service without error (e.g. at apply of new settings in applet). - UPS error handling improved: * UPS status "No Battery" added (previously shown as "Error"). * UPS status "Low Battery" was signaled only if system was running on battery. Now "Low Battery" (when power is OK) and the new status "Low Battery Shutdown" (when running on battery) are signaled. * GUI status texts for UPS errors modified: "UPS" removed. * Service makes different event log entries for shutdown at "Low Battery" and "Power fail" (and passed delay time). - Company name and copyright in executable files changed to: "Digital Electronics Corporation" or "Schneider Automation SAS." - Settings added for SMART support of RAID. - Event logging added in GUI: "System Monitor Service not running." "Popup message has been shown because of ..." "Sound has played because of ..." "Buzzer has sounded because of ..." - Confirmation dialog added for error reset in GUI. - Text centered in GUI alarm list. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.2 (03-Nov-2010) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Fixes - Wrong buffer sizes were used in service when reading the SMART status. This leads to error when the standard Microsoft disk driver is used in the system. - The registry settings were not written correctly on "fresh" systems wihtout Visual Studio 2008 C runtime library (have been required by AdiRegInfo.exe). Changes - Settings merged into "executable" setups. - Settings for CompactFlash cards added: 5CFCRD.2048-05 (Compact Flash 2048MB SB) 5CFCRD.4096-05 (Compact Flash 4096MB SB) 5CFCRD.8192-05 (Compact Flash 8192MB SB) - APC810 slide-in drive 2 temperature added. - High limit of slide-in drive 1 temperature changed from 60 to 55 degrees Celsius. - Version resources of applet updated. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.1 (29-Oct-2010) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Changes - SSD life-time check (via SMART) added. - Support of additional disks (5AC801.HDDI-03 and 5AC801.HDDI-00) added. - GUI texts corrected: Status "PASS" changed to "Pass". Status "ERROR" changed to "Error". Fan name "FAN x" changed to "Fan x". Property page "UPS" changed to "Battery". - GUI status "***" (no service) is shown red. - New icon for GUI property page if alarm group is disabled. - Error list update improved in GUI alert message. - Performance improvement in service (disk access minimized). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.0 (13-Oct-2010) ------------------------------------------------------------------ - First release. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Copyright (c) by B&R ------------------------------------------------------------------ Bernecker + Rainer Industrie-Elektronik Ges.m.b.H.
